Multi-Group, Multi-Specialty Steering Committee

February 20, 2015

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the health care delivery system is facing revolutionary changes. Shifting from a volume-based to a value-based system will challenge all health care providers across the United States. While many of our peer academic health centers are ideally situated to succeed in a volume-based care delivery paradigm, to best serve our patients and fulfill our missions RBHS must plan for the future.

As discussed in the RBHS Strategic Plan, we are beginning to evaluate new models for structuring our clinical practices to best position RBHS. We will be exploring the potential of a multi-specialty, multi-professional faculty practice plan that may encompass under one umbrella clinical departments of multiple schools, clinical care units, geographic campuses, and a wide range of licensed providers. This concept was originally conceived by a collaboration of the Newark-based schools of RBHS and has been expanded to include all clinical operations. To guide this critical project, we have formed a steering committee and retained the services of ECG Management Consultants, experts in academic health organizations.

The Steering Committee will be chaired by Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Interim Dean Vicente Gracias, MD. The members of the committee are:

  • Marc Klapholz, MD; New Jersey Medical School
  • Anne C. Mosenthal, MD; New Jersey Medical School
  • Justin Sambol, MD; New Jersey Medical School
  • Alfred Tallia, MD, MPH; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
  • Cecile A. Feldman, DMD, MBA; School of Dental Medicine
  • Alma Merians, PT, PhD; School of Health Related Professions
  • Mary DiGiulio, DNP, APN; School of Nursing
  • Carol Goldin, PhD; Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
  • Robert S. DiPaola, MD; Cancer Institute of New Jersey
  • Chris Kosseff, MS; President & CEO University Behavioral Health Care
  • Kathy Bramwell, MBA; Senior Vice Chancellor Finance & Administration
  • Philip Mesisca, MBA; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
  • Susan Von-Nessin-Scanlin MBA, MSN, CRNP; Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
  • Aron Hajart, MS, ATC; New Jersey Medical School
  • Lisa Wahler, Esq.; Office of the General Counsel
  • Geoff Gibson, Esq.; Office of the General Counsel
  • Kyle S. Aaronson; RBHS Finance
  • Steven K. Andreassen, Esq.; Chief of Staff

This project will begin with a comprehensive assessment of our current clinical operations, including data collection, analysis, and interviews with a wide range of RBHS faculty and staff. As the committee organizes, please assist them in quickly responding to data requests these will be critical to further design and development of this project. Rhonda McCathern, PhD and Amy Warsh will be providing administrative support for this project. Together we can optimally position RBHS for the imminent changes and systemic changes in health care and emerge as one of the nation’s premier academic health centers.

Thank you.
