Introducing Rutgers University Biostatistics & Epidemiology Services Center

September 8, 2016

Dear RBHS Faculty & Investigators:

I am pleased to introduce the Rutgers University Biostatistics and Epidemiology Services Center (RUBIES) administratively centered in the RBHS Chancellor's office. This new Center has been created to provide statistics, programming and data analysis to investigators on a mostly fee-for-services basis.

RUBIES will deliver wide range of services including data cleaning, statistical programming, study design, data analysis and interpretation, and technical report preparation, as well as the production of statistical summaries, tables, and graphs. The first hour of consultation is free, after which with additional work completed based on an agreed-upon written estimate of cost (non-faculty investigators should be accompanied by their faculty mentor for the initial meeting). RUBIES staff will ensure completion of more complex requests by working with faculty or by referring those requests to faculty with relevant expertise in Epidemiology, Statistics, or Biostatistics.

Mr. Don Alderson serves as the Administrative Manager of RUBIES and investigators' primary point of contact. Mr. Alderson joins us from Morgan Stanley where he was an Executive Director in Global Risk and Analysis. He has more than 20 years of experience in statistical modeling and data analysis across a number of fields including economics, public policy, finance, and medical research. He has worked previously as a biostatistician for Columbia and Brown and as a researcher for The Urban Institute.

Dr. Pamela Ohman Strickland is the Faculty Director for the Center. Dr. Ohman Strickland is Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health and has been part of the Biostatistics faculty for 15 years. She has collaborated with numerous investigators throughout RBHS including those from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey Medical School, the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. She serves as Director for the Biostatistics Core of the NIEHS funded Center for Environmental Exposure and Disease. Her areas of expertise include cluster randomized trials, analysis with small samples, categorical data, and models for repeated measures.

The RUBIES Governing board consists of four faculty members including:

  • Pamela Ohman Strickland, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health
  • Steven Buyske, PhD, Research Associate Professor, Statistics and Biostatistics, School Arts and Sciences
  • Amy Davidow, PhD, Associate Professor, Preventative Medicine & Community Health, School of Public Health
  • Kitaw Demissie, MD, PhD, Chair and Professor, Epidemiology, School of Public Health
