STUDENT FINANCIAL AID HANDBOOK
HOW DO I APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID?
**It is absolutely critical that you read and complete the actions as outlined to prevent delays in the determination of your financial aid eligibility for the financial aid year. **
File your 2012 federal tax return prior to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- TAX FILERS
- The Student Financial Aid Office strongly recommends students and/or parents file their federal income tax returns as soon as possible and then complete the FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Form (DRT).
- Electronically filed tax return information will be available online from the IRS site in 3-4 weeks after the return has been filed.
- Data from paper tax returns will be available in 8-10 weeks.
- NON-TAX FILERS
- Students and/or parents who are NOT REQUIRED TO FILE a federal tax return may file their FAFSA immediately.
File your 2013-2014 FAFSA via www.fafsa.ed.gov and input the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) Federal School Code: 002629.
***Please note that if you have not applied for a Federal PIN number to sign your FAFSA electronically, you will need to apply prior to the submission of your FAFSA. You may apply for a Federal PIN number via www.pin.ed.gov. IF you are a Dependent student, a separate application for an additional Federal PIN number must be completed for one of your parents/legal guardian.***
Complete the online 2013-2014 RBHS Financial Aid Application via https://registration.umdnj.edu/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/reg/ faidscript.cgi.
**Step 4 and Step 5 is for NEW RBHS LOAN BORROWERS and for those students that have NOT PARTICIPATED PREVIOUSLY in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program**
Complete the online Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Session via www.studentloans.gov.
Complete the Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note via www.studentloans.gov.
Notification that you have been selected for Verification by the U.S. Department of Education is shown on the Student Aid Report (SAR). If you are selected for Verification and wish to receive financial aid; such as the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study (FWS), Federal Pell Grant and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, you must complete the appropriate verification documentation which can be obtained through the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) Financial Aid website:
If you transfer from one RBHS school/campus to another RBHS school/campus or from any other institution to RBHS, your financial aid does not automatically transfer with you. To receive aid at your new school/campus, check with that school's financial aid office to find out which programs are available and any additional steps you are required to take to complete the process.
