Excellence in Teaching Awards

Gabrielle Esperdy and Ha PhamThe University awarded Prof. Gabrielle Esperdy of the College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) and the Urban Systems program, the Excellence in Lower Division Undergraduate Instruction. Prof. Esperdy is well known for her thoughtfully designed courses that include brilliant lectures delivered with energy and excitement, and readings that reflect both the historic record as well as up-to-date criticism. The depth of Professor Esperdy’s knowledge is recognizable: she is as comfortable responding to students' questions about materials as those about cultural context. She engages with current architectural practice by working with a design collective, and she is also deeply involved in other professional activities, including serving as the editor of the Society of Architectural Historians' Archipedia. As is clear to her colleagues and her students, she is both a dedicated historian and an equally devoted educator who has been a great asset to the NJIT community.

Ha Pham was recently recognized by the University for his excellence as a teaching assistant for a wide variety of course subjects in the College of Architecture and Design (CoAD). These include graduate architecture design studios; summer abroad programs requiring knowledge of architectural and cultural history; traditional media drawing classes; technical course for architecture in construction and environmental control systems. The breadth and depth of his knowledge, and the ability to convey his knowledge with clarity and passion make him an exceptional contributor to NJIT.
