Ian G. Bouie began the Urban Systems Program in Fall 2009. A Plainfield, NJ native, he graduated Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Park Campus in 2003, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Communication.  During his final semester, he completed an internship at Universal Records and was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the official Honor Society of the National Communication Association (NCA).  Ian earned his Master of Arts in Media Studies from William Paterson University in 2005. While pursuing his Master’s, he worked as a graduate assistant in Graduate Admissions and served as President of the Graduate Student Organization.  This leadership position allowed him to deliver the commencement addresses to graduating Master’s students in both 2004 and 2005. 

Ian worked as Program Assistant for the Paterson Teachers for Tomorrow (PT4T) Program at William Paterson from August 2005 to June 2011.  In this role, he advised, counseled, and mentored high school and college students from Paterson, NJ who aspired to become teachers in their hometowns.  He was essential in ensuring that the students’ transition from high school to college was as seamless as possible.  During his tenure, he assisted PT4T Scholars on the road to graduation and teaching careers in Paterson, as well as other urban school districts in New Jersey.  Ian was an active participant in the 2007 NAME Conference in Baltimore, MD, as well as the 2008 Future Teachers’ Conference at William Paterson University.  His research interests include urban college campuses, homegrown urban teachers, retention among urban college students, and affordable housing for teachers.
