Jennifer Bucalo

Urban Educational Policy

Work Position

As a product of the Brooklyn public school system, Jennifer earned a full scholarship to Hofstra University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Science in Education with distinction. Her experiences at the University of London, where she studied Policies and Practices in British Education, were instrumental in her unabated quest to find answers to her questions at the PhD level.

While working as an elementary public school teacher for seven years in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Jennifer found that she loved working with a multicultural student body. As a former English Second Language student, Jennifer was and remains sympathetic to their needs. Her research interests include urban education, especially among children of Latin descent. She is eager to face the community members of Newark and hopefully be a role model for children who do not speak English. Being part of an innovative research program that seeks to improve the quality of education would be a dream come true. She looks forward to learning more about the history, sociology, politics and economic dynamics of urban life.
