Mohamed is currently a PhD student in Urban Environment-History specialization at NJIT.  Before coming to NJIT he completed an MA in Middle East Studies at the American University in Cairo.  Since his background and interests lie in Middle East history of the 19th and early 20th century, Mohamed wrote his MA thesis on Charity and Nationalism: The Case of ‘Abd Allah al-Nadim’s Islamic Philanthropic Society.  Mohamed hopes to continue his research into Modern Middle East history by examining the development of secondary/peripheral cities in the 19th and early 20th century.  

His research interests include: Architecture and space of the built urban environment, European colonialism, modern Egyptian and Middle East history, social history of the Middle East and political economy of the Middle East.
